Latin American Community Involvement Scholarship (LACIS):
Australian Education International (AEI) has made a generous scholarship offer to members of Co-operation 21 who are studying in Latin America. The scholarship is a way to promote volunteering and help develop solid bilateral relations between Australia and Latin America. Details to be announced soon.
Don Quixote:
Co-operation 21 won one of 20 scholarships from Don Quixote language institution Spain for their efforts in promoting the Spanish language in Australia. Stephanie Templeton, the lucky recipient received a two week language course in Mexico.
Restructuring the organisation:
New strategies are being devised in order to facilitate the successful expansion of Co-operation 21. New committees are currently being organised in both Sydney and Melbourne, Australia and Santiago, Chile.
Webpage update:
Anna Ridgeway has translated the webpage of Co-operation 21 to enable more exposure to the Latin American community. The Spanish version will be available shortly.

New links have been made with several valuable community projects:

Upcoming events:
We look forward to our next event with Australian Alumni of Chile. This event will be a great way of forming solid links between professionals and students in the two countries. Co-operation 21 hopes that it will aid in developing both intellectual and cultural links and well as creating valuable networking opportunities. Aims to promote Australian and Chilean cultures in line with both Co-operation 21 and Australian Alumni of Chile organisational interests.
New team members:
Profile - Lizzie O’Brien, Santiago Committee
Lizzie is studying a combined Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her major studies include Finance, Economics and Spanish. She has been involved in various volunteer organisations over the past five years, including roles as both President and Treasurer of the Melbourne University Water Polo Club. She has a strong interest in developmental economics and South American politics. Lizzie is currently on exchange at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago where she hopes to develop her Spanish language skills. We thank her for her recent contributions in drafting the LACIS application, a generous sponsorship offer from AEI.

Profile- Caitlin Sandercock, NSW Committee
Caitlin is currently in her 5th year of a combined Communications (Social Inquiry) and International Studies (Chile Major) at the University of Technology Sydney. She has a keen interest in the Spanish language, social justice and international relations; all of which have been heavily integrated into her university life. She has been an active member of the UTS Students’ Association over the past five years. She was also general editor and advertising co-ordinator of the UTS student magazine Vertigo. Her interest in Spanish and the Australian Hispanic Diaspora has been fuelled by a semester exchange to ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico and an International Studies year in Santiago de Chile, during which she was able to undertake two different volunteer programs and an internship.
